ARTSPACE is a non-profit organization dedicated to building a centralized gathering space where artists, makers, performers and cultural organizations can work, create, live and connect.
ARTSPACE will be a place where our entire community will collaborate, learn and grow.
Saskatoon is home to many artists, designers, performers and makers, as well as guilds, associations and collaboratives. ARTSPACE envisions having one central, public location to connect these groups with each other, and with the community. The result will be a vibrant, urban magnet for Saskatoon residents and visitors alike.
Elements of the ARTSPACE development plan include:
- exhibition, retail and performance space
- office space for arts organizations
- a membership based makerspace
- permanent, affordable work and live space for artists
- mixed income and multigenerational housing
ARTSPACE is exploring a number of development opportunities within Saskatoon. Our current focus is the former city bus barns, located on Avenue C North and 24th Street in Caswell Hill. The bus barns would fit an adaptive re-use model which has proven successful in many cities in Canada, North America and around the world. Similarly, many of these projects reimagined under-utilized historic buildings, leading to remarkable neighborhood revitalization.
The ARTSPACE development concept aligns with the vision and goals of the 2010 South Caswell Concept Plan and the City of Saskatoon’s desire to see the historic bus barns redeveloped into a community asset.
